Focused, one-on-one coaching
Lessons are tailored to each student’s level and needs. Whether you are brand-new or returning to chess, our coaches meet you where you are.
Ben and other volunteer coaches offer free chess lessons for kids and for people in Chattanooga facing homelessness, mental health challenges, disability, financial hardship, and life transitions — both in person and online for anyone who wants to learn.
Ben has been playing chess for years and now focuses on teaching students who might not otherwise have access to structured lessons.
Why this matters
Chess is more than a game. It builds focus, patience, planning, and confidence — qualities that are valuable for people in all walks of life. And it's fun!
Lessons are tailored to each student’s level and needs. Whether you are brand-new or returning to chess, our coaches meet you where you are.
Students include people experiencing homelessness, those living with mental illness, disabled community members, and veterans. Everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
Students in Chattanooga can meet in person at public spaces like libraries, community centers, or coffee shops. Others can connect online via chess.com using just a phone.
